Happy Saturday, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas/holiday week spending time with friends and family. I certainly did, but now I'm excited to finally get back to the blog and share my last installment of "How to Dress On-Trend + Not Freeze to Death" with you. I've really enjoyed my first foray into the world of blogging, and I look forward to creating new content to share with all of you in the new year!
This week's trend takes me way back to my childhood. I have distinct memories from a very young age of roaming around my mother's closet and wrapping myself up in her fuzzy fur coats. I've always been attracted to these types of garments, even if only to run my hands over the softness for a passing moment. They scream luxury and high fashion, while actually being highly practical and keeping you warm in the coldest months.
I will admit, when these babies first made their reappearance into the fashion scene, I wasn't crazy about them. They appeared too bulky and almost too flashy for my taste (anybody who knows me personally is LOLing right now because if there's anything I love, it's flashy, attention-grabbing clothes). But gradually, as more and more styles appeared, I was sold on the trend based on the sheer variety in styles, from varied fits, colors, and patterns, to different weights suitable for any occasion. There are longer and heftier styles meant to actually keep you warm, as well as lightweight options meant simply for style. And the best part about this trend? YOU DON'T HAVE TO BREAK THE BANK TO BUY IT. While the fur coats of old were often incredibly expensive and owned only by those with the highest fashion sense (and socioeconomic class), the new synthetic styles are available at your favorite "everyday" type retailers, such as H&M and Forever 21- where I happened to purchase my personal favorite!
These jackets are great with a variety of different outfits as well- I've worn mine over a sweater and jeans on a day out shopping, as well as over a dress from Free People for a wedding earlier in the season. (Added bonus for those of you reading this on publishing day: these coats will look FABULOUS over your shiny New Year's Eve outfits!) No matter the formality of the occasion, this look adds a touch of class and extravagance to any outfit.
With that, my loves, I conclude this fun series about how to stay stylish without letting hypothermia set in. I hope I've brought you all a little fashion and fun, and I look forward to seeing you in my next series!
Until next year, snow bunnies! (That was such a parent joke, I know, I know, I'm ashamed)
