For those of you that don't already know, I was born vertically challenged. (And for those of you that don't get what I'm talking about, I mean that I'm short. Like, really short.) My biggest dream growing up was to make it to 5'3", but by some cruel joke, I came up short by two inches and just froze. Because of my height issue, I've always found things labeled "over-the-knee" or "thigh high" to be scary. I loved how it looked on those leggy Instagram models, but it just never looked quite right on me. (Cue the story of that one time I bought "thigh high" stockings that LITERALLY came up to my pelvis.)
THANKFULLY, as this trend has grown more and more popular in the last year or two, it's also become more reasonable in terms of fitting more and more body types. From plus size to petite, today you can find a super-tall stunner that will work for you and give you the high fashion (HA see what I did there?) look we all desire.
The best part about this trend for the winter season is that it basically covers your entire leg, meaning A) you can stay cozy and still be cute, and B) nobody will be able to tell that you quit shaving your legs in November. (Don't lie, we all know what you're hiding under those sweater tights!)
Although I do love the summer variations of this trend, I personally think winter's where it's at for these babies. Crushed velvet, very reminiscient of the 90s, has once again come to the forefront of street style, and in case you haven't been inside an Urban Outfitters recently, METALLIC IS IN. These two shiny show-offs are my personal favorite textures for this season. That being said, you really can't go wrong with a classic suede- I have a black pair from Lola Shoetique and I could honestly live in them forever!
In addition to lots of fabric and color options, there's the heel option. This is one great trend where you can look equally stylish in flats, wedges, or tiny little stiletto heel- something I usually don't see! Not only does this keep you comfy when you're out on the town, but it also keeps the look versatile; you can wear the same boots over tights or even jeans for daytime, and then under a slinkier dress for a night out.
I think we can all agree that this trend is honestly amazing. It's extremely stylish but so incredibly simple, and comes in a wide variety of styles and prices. Whether you're going for color, comfort, or a look that could kill a man (YASSS SLAY), this trend has got you covered... literally!
