Picture this: you, all bundled in your bed under all those toasty covers, wearing your favorite oversized sweatshirt, with visions of sugar plums dancing in your head. The wind might be blustering outside, but you wouldn't know, 'cause you're cozier than a polar bear by the fireplace, just dreaming about a tropical vacation. But then, suddenly and completely out of nowhere... BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! The dreaded alarm clock- it's time to get up out of your cozy cocoon and dress like a functioning human being.
Waking up early in the winter not only means finding your way around in complete and utter darkness, but also going it in obnoxiously low temperatures that sometimes have the audacity to make their way into the negatives. And while the winter wonderland outside your window looks romantic, it feels like throwing yourself into the waters of the Arctic.
But what if I told you that you don't have to give up your snuggly sweatshirt to stay stylish on a cold winter's day? THAT is where the sweatshirt dress comes in, and, my friends, it is as glorious as it sounds.
This trend draws largely from the hottest (lol no pun intended) Asian fashion trends, with the "oversized everything" silhouette only growing in popularity this year. Sweatshirt dresses are amazing for a long list of reasons, but here's my top two:
Similarly to the sweater trend discussed in my first post of this series, sweatshirt dresses come in many varieties, including ones with cold-shoulder details, lace up necklines, and eye-catching embroidery or patches.
Personally, my favorite way to wear this trend is in a solid black sweatshirt dress. The color keeps it versatile, the minimalism keeps it professional, and, of course, the fleece lining keeps it as comfortable as ever. Pair it with some fleece-lined tights and some cozy boots, and you may have actually found yourself an outfit that's more comfortable than your loungewear.
So far, I've found that Forever 21 is the best place to find these dream dresses for a decent price. To do some more shopping, shop my Polyvore board above by clicking on the link!
Have a fabulous Christmas and a wonderful end to your holiday season! See you soon!
